-Theme education activities were carried out in SEM

(Correspondent: Li Shanshan) This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and also the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan. In order to encourage and guide graduates of School of Economics & Management to stay firm in their ideals and principles, clarify their missions, strengthen party spirit education, and motivate them to strive unswervingly and take their responsibilities bravely, the Counselor Qu Jianjing and Secretary of the Youth League Branch of graduate students Li Shanshan led nearly 50 graduate representatives of the School to visit Fumei Battle Memorial Hall and ZhangZai Ci where they carried out “A Tribute to the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China, Starting A New Journey” themed educational activities on June 2.

First, they visited Fumei Battle Memorial Hall. As we know, Fumei Battle was the biggest battle in northwest China during the War of Liberation. In accordance with the deployment of Chairman Mao Zedong of the Central Military Commission, Peng Dehuai, He Long and Xi Zhongxun led the First Field Army to have a large-scale final battle with Kuomintang’s troops led by Hu Zongnan, Ma Bufang and Ma Hongkui. This battle completely put an end to Hu Zongnan’s reactionary rule of as long as 12 years in northwest China and also marked the beginning of the people’s army liberating Northwest China and marching into Southwest China.

“Though the remains of martyrs are buried everywhere in green hills, their spirits live on.” There were more than 4600 casualties during Fumei Battle. Among them, only 2160 PLA soldiers left their name. They wrote a heroic epic at the expense of their lives. Everyone felt the spirit of revolution and sacrifice of the older generation of revolutionaries and PLA soldiers in the memorial hall.

In the middle period of Northern Song Dynasty, Zhang Zai had strong statecraft feelings and the ambition of pursuing the times of peace and prosperity. As a saying goes “to establish a practical theoretical system for people to understand the truth of heaven and earth, to establish a set of practical thoughts and methods for people to settle down in the world, to continue the immortal theory that will not be passed down for the sages of all ages, and to create a great foundation of eternal peace for all generations”. This saying is the essence of Zhang Zai’s thoughts on Guan School, the benchmark of Guan School and also the motto of intellectuals of all ages to realize their self-value. In addition, these four sentences also fully reflect “benevolent spirit” and “feelings of heaven and earth”, and are called as “Heng-qu’s Four Dicta” by Mr. Feng Youlan, a contemporary philosopher. “A gentleman should help the people and cultivate their virtue”, “if you want to make contribution to the world, you must cultivate more scholars”. From the perspective of Zhang Zai, a gentleman should respect and follow the god’s will, have indomitable spirit, be honest and fair, study phenomena of nature, pursue knowledge, understand the reasons, cultivate morality, govern his own family, administer country and rule the world, strive to reach the realm of sages.

Zhai Yihua, a professional master degree candidate of Finance, said: it is a great honor for me to participate in the theme education activities for graduates as organized by the School upon graduation. When I first arrived at Fumei Battle Memorial Hall, I saw people from all walks of life and was fascinated by their enthusiasm for learning the history of the Party. In the hall, under the guidance of the commentator, I had an in-depth understanding of Fumei Battle and spirit of sacrifice and the courage to take risks of revolutionary martyrs through the photos, objects and stories. When visiting ZhangZai Ci, I accepted the baptism of traditional culture. I also had profound understanding of “to establish a practical theoretical system for people to understand the truth of heaven and earth, to establish a set of practical thoughts and methods for people to settle down in the world, to continue the immortal theory that will not be passed down for the sages of all ages, and to create a great foundation of eternal peace for all generations”. As a member of the CPC, I am fully aware that I should keep my faith and bravely take my responsibilities in the future work and life upon graduation.

Learn history and practice it. After “looking at the heroes with reverence and exploring the origin of Guan School” themed educational activity for graduates, the students more firmly believe that they will never forget to make contributions to their families, country and nation while pursuing their own dreams. They will undertake the mission bestowed by the history and assume the responsibilities according to the demand of the times, working hard in their youth.
