A Survey of School

School of Economics & Management, Xidian University was established in 1980. After 40 years’construction, School of Economics & Management has developed comprehensive disciplines and talent training systems across both economics and management fields and formed the academic feature of integration of management, economics, and information. The school serves as a major base for economic and management research, talent training, and social service in the central and western regions of China.

The predecessor of the school, Department of Management Engineering and Intelligence Engineering, established in 1980, was one of the management schools (departments) set up in the early period of China’s reform and opening up. The School of Economics & Management was established in 1993 and integrated related disciplines and majors from School of Humanities in December 2012.

Currently, the school consists of four first-class disciplines: Applied Economics, Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, and Library Science and Informatics & Achieves Management. Among which, Management Science and Engineering is a Ph.D. degree awarding program. The second-class disciplines include National Economics, Industrial Economics, Finance, Management Science and Engineering, Enterprise Management, Accounting, Technological Economics and Management, Informatics, and Library Science. Among which, Management Science and Engineering and Informatics are both Provincial Key Disciplines. The school also embraces four Professional Master's Degree awarding programs: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Engineering Management (MEM), and Master of Finance.

The school has six departments including Information Management, Business Administration, Management Engineering, Economics and Finance, Electronic Commerce, and Public Administration, and offers ten majors for undergraduates, including Information Management and Information Systems, Business Administration, Marketing, Human Resources Management, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Finance, Electronic Commerce, Labor and Social Security, and Public Administration. Except that, experiment center with labs of Business Administration, Finance, Human Factors, Engineering, and Information Management is in service. In addition, the school also provides a senior management education center and the Xi’an Base for training center of technical and scientific intelligence personnel from the General Armaments Department. Presently, there are about 2,000 students on the campus (1,300 undergraduates and 700 postgraduate students and doctoral students approximately). The school attaches great importance to the training of students’ innovation and practical ability. Students of the school have won multiple prizes in national competitions such as “Challenge Cup” Entrepreneurship Competition and China College Students “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The employment rate of the school is always among the best compared to similar universities in China and the graduates from the school have built a good reputation among employers. With the foothold in the western region and orientation toward industries, the school provides support of talents, intelligence, and decision-making for the sustainable development of the region, industries, and companies, and has made significant contributions to both national and regional economic and social development.
