Xidian University SEM was awarded First Prize in the 2023 National International Business Decision-Making Simulation Competition for International Students in China

(Correspondent: Dong Ming, Yang Mengyao) From November 20 to 21, 2023, the First International Business Decision-Making Simulation Competition for International Students and the Final of the International Competition of the Tip Beacon Moment were successfully concluded at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. The competition was organized by the Shanghai Education Association for International Exchange and hosted by the School of International Cultural Exchange of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics along with the organizing committee of the global simulation tournament platform, Tip Beacon Moment. After two days of intense competition, the international student team led by Associate Professor Dong Ming from the SEM of Xidian University emerged victorious, securing the first prize with outstanding performance and bringing glory to the university!
The event attracted 223 students from 56 countries and 17 institutions to participate this year. The four international students from SEM who took part in the competition hailed from four countries: Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan and Zimbabwe. Throughout the competition, these four students showcased extraordinary teamwork and business acumen. They adeptly organized the order of appearances and distribution of content in the business report, overcoming the challenge of limited proficiency in the Chinese language. Through sincere cooperation and a clear division of labour, they fully demonstrated their creativity and talent during the business case reporting session. They developed their analysis with rationale and justification, earning unanimous recognition from the judges and ultimately securing the first prize in the competition with excellent results.
At the closing ceremony, Professor Dong Ming, serving as the instructor, addressed the theme of 'complexity, engagement and journey.' He emphasized that while reality is inherently complex, theoretical concepts remain relatively simple. Bridging the gap between reality and theory and transforming complexity into simplicity constitute the pivotal challenges in students' learning endeavours. Professor Dong Ming conducted an analysis covering the context of business simulation, teaching and learning, as well as the trajectory of studying abroad during his presentation.
As a prestigious business simulation competition, the Beacon Moment Business Competition has been successfully conducted for 15 years. Originally initiated for international students in China, the competition aims to enhance their business decision-making and internationalization analysis skills, providing a platform for them to showcase their abilities, exchange ideas, and broaden their perspectives. Through competing with students from diverse countries and regions, international students from Xidian have honed their business decision-making and international analysis capabilities. Simultaneously, the competition has fostered academic and cultural exchanges among international students from various countries, schools, and professional backgrounds. This has significantly contributed to the international business education at Xidian University.
